I initiated the creation of an executive team to tackle strategic issues and provide guidance and direction for Degrees2Dreams. Since September 2012, we have drafted a strategic plan, identified major players in the company’s community, and called for a roundtable discussion on problems and solutions in matching job seekers and employers. We also prepared a pilot program with alumni associations and entered our first startup accelerator.
In the summer of 2012, I planned and organized an real-world scavenger hunt in South Boston called Scavenger in Southie. I developed an event plan outlining my vision for the event, organization & management, products and services offered, and risks and mitigation strategies. I’ve also developed an appendix outlining the scavenger hunt concept of operations (details on the day of the event).
I worked in Baghdad, Iraq for seven months in 2011. I was a program manager of the training of the Iraqi Army on several pieces of artillery and mechanized equipment. In other words, big machines!
I am most proud of my effort to integrate the Kurdish Brigades into the Iraqi Army by using funding incentives and can talk about that with you personally.
The Department of Homeland Security
I joined the Department of Homeland Security in 2008 as part of the DHS Honors Fellows Program, a two-year professional development program providing policy & program analysts headquarters-level projects and visibility.
As an Honors Fellow, I worked on the first ever Quadrennial Homeland Security Review (QHSR) – a four-year national strategy for homeland security. We had about 8 months to organize and develop a national strategy for immigration policy, and made a conscious effort to include Congress, non-profits, interest groups, the private sector, and public associations in strategy development.
We jokingly described the project akin to “building a plane while flying it.”
Although it was intense it was also my favorite project while at DHS. Click here to read the 2010 QHSR. Skip to page 52 to read Mission 3 – Enforcing and Administering Our Immigration Laws – to read content I wrote and edited for the QHSR.
